On June 3, 2025, Sarah Terrell, Trammo Director and Head of Sulphuric Acid and The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) FERT Foundation Chair, visited Nikola Tesla STEM High School to present a $5,000 check to student Taein Kim, the first-place winner of the Nutrients for Life 2025 #Madepossiblebyfertilizer Digital Contest.
This annual competition celebrates creativity and innovation in showcasing the vital role of fertilizer in global food security, plant health, and sustainability. Students from seventh to twelfth grade submitted a diverse range of projects – from stop motion animations to interactive websites – highlighting how essential nutrients support plant growth and fertilizer connects to solving hunger, advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goal #2: Zero Hunger.
Taein’s winning submission, Fertilizer: A Key to Ending Hunger, is an engaging animated video that illustrates how fertilizer plays a crucial role in combatting global hunger. Through the story of a struggling tomato plant, viewers learn how essential nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium contribute to stronger crops, increased food production, and progress toward the goal of Zero Hunger.

Trammo Director and Head of Sulphuric Acid Sarah Terrell said: “Presenting this check on behalf of the FERT Foundation was a powerful reminder of why we, as an industry, invest in education. Supporting youth who are thinking critically about agriculture and sustainability reinforces our long-term commitment to cultivating informed, future-ready leaders. I was inspired by the creativity and thoughtfulness behind this winning project, which explored the fertilizer industry and its role in addressing global challenges. These student interactions and contests not only allow us to share our industry’s story—they also give us valuable insight into what resonates with youth and how we can strengthen our engagement with the next generation.”
